3 regulation changes regarding animal husbandry from the Ministry

Prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, ‘Regulation on Amendments to the Regulation on the Identification, Registration and Monitoring of Bovine Animals’, ‘Regulation on Amendments to the Regulation on the Identification, Registration and Monitoring of Sheep and Goat Type Animals’, ‘Regulation on the Identification and Transport of Migratory Animals’. ‘Regulation on Amendments’ came into force. With the regulations, a new classification was introduced regarding whether the animals in question are ‘defined’ or ‘undefined’.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry, with the changes made; In Turkey, changes were made to the legislation regarding tagging and registration of cattle, sheep and goat species; The procedures to be taken for animals whose ears or both ears were pierced for identification purposes but did not have ear tags in one or both ears were determined. Accordingly, animals that have not been identified with a unique identification number before or whose identification number cannot be determined and proven even though they have been previously identified will be considered ‘unidentified animals’. Except for the protected areas determined by the Ministry, in cases where the same unique identification number of the animal cannot be declared, the record keeping and traceability level of the breeders has been increased by obtaining a commitment from the animal owner, accepting the animals as unidentified, and applying new ear tags after applying an administrative fine, thus ensuring the identification of the animals.

Animal owners; The emergence of animals with duplicate ear tag numbers due to late reporting of dropped, lost or deleted ear tags or reporting incorrect numbers was prevented. Like this; The wait time for breeders was shortened by reducing the time required for the ear tags to be replaced with new ones containing the same unique identification number. In the event that animals that are likely to be detected during the checks to be carried out at the newly established or to be established road control points with the changes and that do not comply with the provisions of the regulation are detected; Problems such as prolongation of administrative or judicial processes, lack of physical space for on-site quarantine of animals, problems with trustees, prolongation of transportation time and non-compliance with animal welfare have been overcome.
