96 billion TL from waste to economy

Compost facilities, which have an important place within the scope of the Zero Waste Project launched six years ago, make a serious contribution to the economy. With the 45.5 million tons of recyclable waste collected so far through the project, an economic gain of 96 billion lira was achieved. Compost facilities are established to transform waste into compost products.

A total of 200-250 kilograms of compost product is obtained from an average of 1000 kg of waste in a 30-day period. In 2023, 5 thousand 714 kilograms of waste was obtained from garden grass, tea pulp, cafeteria organic waste and sawdust. The product compost obtained from these wastes reached 2 thousand 555 kilograms.

As a result of all zero waste activities carried out, in 2023, approximately 259 trees will be produced from 15 thousand 250 kilograms of paper waste, approximately 76 barrels of oil will be produced from 4 thousand 705 kilograms of plastic, approximately 18.5 tons of raw materials will be produced from 15 thousand 670 kilograms of glass waste, approximately 1 ton of raw materials will be produced from 1200 kilograms of metal waste, 5 tons of raw materials were saved. Approximately 1190 liters of biodiesel was obtained from 1190 kg of waste vegetable oil, and approximately 160 liters of mineral oil was obtained from 250 kg of waste engine oil.

Instead of going to waste, food waste turns into a highly nutritious fertilizer for soil and plants. Kitchen waste, tea pulp, fruit and vegetable residues, egg shells, coffee grounds and filters, hazelnut shells, fallen and dried leaves, sawdust and wood splinters, wood ashes and grass waste from the gardens are recycled with the compost method and used as fertilizer in parks and public gardens. .
