Budget dispute: Ministry of Finance also blocks WSF crisis fund after budget ruling

Following the Constitutional Court’s budget ruling, the Federal Ministry of Finance also blocked the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF). Due to the Karlsruhe decision, the WSF credit authorizations “could no longer be used in 2023 according to the current legal situation,” says a letter from Budget State Secretary Werner Gatzer to the other ministries.

According to information from finance department circles, the payment of the energy price brakes will not be affected this year.

The Handelsblatt further reports that, according to the letter, all expenses not yet used in the 2023 economic plan and all commitment appropriations that have been issued and not yet documented will be blocked. You would now need approval from the Ministry of Finance. The aim is to reduce further burdens on the household and to avoid prior burdens for future financial years.

It was said that the WSF’s expenditure for 2023 would also be blocked Handelsblatt from ministry circles.
