Central Bank Governor Karahan met with bankers: We will maintain tight monetary conditions – Last Minute Economy News

Central Bank (CBRT) Governor Fatih Karahan met with the management of the Banks Association of Turkey (TBB).

Giving the message that tight monetary conditions will continue at the meeting, Karahan stated that disinflation will be established in the second half of 2024.

Touching on the technical details of the functionality of the market mechanism and applications for macro financial stability, Karahan said:

“We anticipate that our steps towards disinflation will be reflected in financial conditions, demand and pricing behavior. We will maintain tight monetary conditions that will significantly and permanently reduce the underlying trend of monthly inflation. “Our determined stance on monetary policy will enable us to successfully achieve our targeted disinflation path.”

SUPPORT MESSAGE FROM BANKS TO THE FIGHT AGAINST INFLATION

TBB Chairman Alpaslan Çakar stated that they listened to Karahan’s evaluations regarding monetary policy practices and provided him and his team with up-to-date information on sectoral developments.

Çakar stated that they emphasized their support for the fight against inflation, which is critical for increasing social welfare and inclusive and sustainable growth, and that their expectations for the future of the Turkish economy are positive.
