China consolidates itself as Morocco’s third trading partner

The Moroccan Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao, They met this Friday in Rabat to deal with the way strengthen trade cooperation between both countries.

In statements collected by the official Moroccan news agency MAP, Mezzour indicated that trade exchanges between both countries have increased to position in 2022 China as the third trading partner of the Maghreb countrywith a global volume of 7,600 million dollars (7,012 million euros).

As for the Chinese investments in Moroccostood at 56 million dollars (51 million euros) in 2022. Half of this amount was allocated to projects in the industrial fieldfollowed by the real estate, transportation and energy and mining sectors.

Mezzour emphasized the opportunities that both economies can offer and the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area to develop Moroccan and Chinese exports to new markets in Africa.

For his part, the Chinese minister stressed that his country’s companies can contribute “significant added value” to the economic development of Morocco, “in accordance with local regulations and exploiting its own technological and development achievements.”
