Clothing brand Burton of London closes its French stores


The jobs of nearly 200 employees are threatened. Burton of London was to close its French stores on February 10, reports Capital. According to the economic media, the ready-to-wear brand will be liquidated on February 13, 2024 by the Paris commercial court. From Lorient to Agen, via Vannes or Dijon, some 47 stores were to lower the iron curtain for good. The fashion brand had been placed on a backup plan in October 2022 before going through the box judicial recovery in June 2023.

The employees were notified on January 30. “We were informed by the judicial administrators. Thierry Le Guénic did not even make the trip for this announcement,” whistled a salesman to Capital, on condition of anonymity. Still according to this media, the Paris court had received two takeover offers. Proposals ultimately rejected.

Purchased in 2020 for a symbolic euro

The approach of closure was palpable on the Burton of London site. On the online store page, a message to warn customers that all items were sold with a 70% discount. Orders were no longer possible on the site, only purchases in store were still possible until February 10.

The recovery plan had already resulted in the closure of 26 points of sale in February, which preceded that of 62 other stores. According to Capital, employees will not be entitled to any reclassification plan in other brands owned by Thierry Le Guénic. The latter bought Burton of London in 2020 for a symbolic euro.
