The Essen district court has the insolvency proceedings for the Galeria department store group Karstadt Kaufhof opened. As an announcement from the court shows, the proceedings were opened on Easter Monday. The group filed for bankruptcy in January – for the third time in the past three and a half years.

The provisional insolvency administrator Stefan Denkhaus announced at the end of March that there were currently two potential buyers for the department store chain. There were a total of four interested parties for a takeover, and negotiations were underway with two about a possible purchase. He did not name the interested parties. The sale is expected to be completed by the end of April.
