Deputy Gorelkin proposed extending registration through foreign services for a year

State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin (United Russia) submitted to the lower house of parliament billwhich proposes to extend until January 1, 2025 the possibility of registering on Russian websites through foreign services.
In his Telegram channel Mr. Gorelkin recalled that, according to amendments to 149-FZ adopted in July 2023, registration on Russian websites and applications from December 1 will be possible only by a Russian telephone number, through State Services, the Unified Biometric System or other service, in full or more than 50% controlled by the Russian side.
“After a series of consultations and meetings with the industry, it turned out that the timing (of organizational work.— “Ъ”) needs to be extended – otherwise there will be no guarantee of stable functioning of the platforms, which will jeopardize the comfort of Russian users,” wrote Mr. Gorelkin.
Law banning registration on Russian websites using foreign services, including email, was signed July 31, 2023. One of the authors of the bill, Mr. Gorelkin, said that the law does not have retroactive effect, therefore, after it comes into force, the changes will only affect new registrations. Thus, already registered accounts linked to foreign email services will continue to work.
August 7, Mail.ru Mail service (part of the VK holding) launched a new domain xmail.ru, designed to transfer letters from accounts of foreign services while maintaining the old login.
