Eid al-Fitr holiday measures in transportation: 35 million people are expected to travel

In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu pointed out that traffic increased by 60-70 percent during the holidays, especially on departure and return dates.

Pointing out that they have taken the necessary measures to ensure that citizens travel peacefully on the country’s 68 thousand 680 kilometer road network, Uraloğlu said, “We expect 30 to 35 million of our citizens to travel as the Eid al-Fitr holiday lasts 9 days. In this context, we have taken all precautions on land, air and railways. “Our citizens need to be much more careful on roads that will be crowded.” made his assessment.

Uraloğlu stated that he expects citizens to approach this issue sensitively in order not to turn the holiday enthusiasm into pain.

“Drivers should avoid acting hastily”

Pointing out that drivers leaving at the same time on the days of departure and return from holiday will create traffic congestion above road capacity on certain routes, Uraloğlu warned drivers to avoid hasty and hectic behavior in order to avoid accidents.

Uraloğlu pointed out that maintenance and repair works, especially on roads with heavy traffic, will be suspended during the holiday, and that traffic markings are made in sections where maintenance works are carried out and the physical standard of the road is low.

Uraloğlu stated that on divided roads, one part of which is closed and the other part of which is open to two-way traffic, the compliance of traffic signs with the determined standards is checked in order not to mislead the drivers. “Our aim is to prevent road defect accidents. We also cooperated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take stricter measures at points where accidents occur frequently. We expect our citizens to be more careful.” he said.

Uraloğlu stated that citizens should get information about the road condition before setting off, and that information can be obtained from the route analysis program on the website of the General Directorate of Highways and from the free “Alo 159” line.

“We increased the capacity of trains”

Reminding that they increased the capacity of mainline and regional trains as well as high-speed train services due to the holiday, Uraloğlu continued as follows:

“We will increase the seat capacity by 18 thousand 84 on high-speed train lines with additional trips starting from April 5. We will increase the number of daily trips from 13+13 to 14+14 on the Ankara-Istanbul line, and from 4+4 to 5+ on the Konya-Istanbul line. We are increasing it to 5. In addition, the 1+1 weekend service on the Ankara-Konya line, which operates on Fridays and Sundays, will also be operated on Saturdays. The new services on high-speed trains will continue after the holiday period. To date, approximately 84 million 260 thousand passengers have been carried by our high and high-speed trains. “We carried it.”

Emphasizing that pulman and sleeper wagons will be added to important regional trains such as Izmir Blue and Eastern expresses during the holiday period, Uraloğlu said that by adding 28 wagons daily to each other in the main line and regional trains, a seat capacity increase of 15 thousand 200 will be increased during the holiday period and an additional capacity of 33 thousand people will be provided on the railways during the holiday. He stated that it would be provided.

“We took all precautions at the airports”

Uraloğlu also pointed out that all necessary preparations have been made by the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) for a comfortable and safe air transportation and said, “All relevant units of DHMİ will provide service on a 24-hour basis during the holiday. Especially at Istanbul Airport and other airports throughout the country.” “We have taken all necessary precautions to prevent any problems arising from congestion at all airports. Our staff at the airports will be in coordination with all units to ensure comfortable and safe transportation for our citizens.” he said.

“Administrative fine will be imposed”

Uraloğlu stated that they gave permission to bus companies to use the buses used in tourism transportation and added:

“During the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, we have increased the inspections in passenger transportation by our General Directorate of Transportation Services Regulation, so that our citizens do not face any problems in finding bus tickets and do not suffer from situations such as exorbitant prices. Those who carry out pirated transportation, operate without a travel permit, drop off passengers in unauthorized places or “Administrative fines will be imposed on companies that offer rides and issue bus tickets at exorbitant prices. In addition, due to the significant increase in the number of passengers traveling by road during the holiday periods, we also requested that bus companies meet the demands by adding additional trips.”
