Export champions of the Western Mediterranean have been announced

BAİB Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ümit Mirza Çavuşoğlu, stated in his statement that fresh fruits and vegetables are the locomotive sector of the region.

Stating that 217.9 million dollars of exports were achieved from the union in January, Çavuşoğlu stated that approximately 83 million dollars of this was made up of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector.

Explaining that the highest exports in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in January were made in tomato, pepper and cucumber-gherkin products, Çavuşoğlu stated that these 3 products constituted 68 percent of fresh fruit and vegetable exports.

Pointing out that tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers have an important place in general exports, Çavuşoğlu said:

“1 dollar of every 4 dollars of exports from the Western Mediterranean came from 3 products grown in greenhouses established in the fertile lands of Antalya. 56.2 million dollars of revenue came from the export of tomatoes, peppers and cucumber-gherkins, which are the top 3 most exported vegetables.” “This corresponded to one quarter of the 217.9 million dollars of exports from Antalya, Burdur and Isparta provinces.”

Reminding that Antalya is a city that has a say in greenhouse production throughout the country, Çavuşoğlu stated that this situation is positively reflected in exports.

Stating that peppers were exported to 39 countries and tomatoes to 37 countries in January, Çavuşoğlu made the following evaluation:

“As of January, our biggest market for tomatoes is Ukraine. Our tomato exports to Ukraine increased by 20 percent compared to January last year and reached 4.5 million dollars. The country we exported the most pepper to was Germany, with a 21 percent increase and 4.5 million dollars “January figures are increasing compared to the same period last year. This gives hope to our sector representatives for the future.”
