Four names for Confindustria, Orsini starts with the advantage

The race for the presidency of Confindustria part four. Many self-nominations arrived yesterday via email – the deadline was 11.59pm – to the committee of three nominated wise men of the industrialists’ association. It is they who by April 4th, after a round of meetings in the territories, will have to present the candidates to be submitted to the decisive vote of the 183 members of the general council. But in the meantime, self-nominations, supported by the signatures of at least a tenth of the council itself, are a way to come forward and weigh in. So here they are in order, according to what was filtered and filtered yesterday: in front of everyone, with about fifty signatures, there would be the outgoing vice president Emanuele Orsini, industrial wooden construction; chasing with over 40 the president of the renewables group Erg and Sole24Ore Edoardo Garrone; then with about thirty the president of Duferco and Federacciai Antonio Gozzi; then the other outgoing deputy Alberto Marenghi, with abundant winds.

Numbers in hand, Orsini is therefore confirmed as ahead. His campaign, moreover, started earlier, with a message of discontinuity compared to the four years of the outgoing Bonomi, and has gathered widespread support: in addition to his Emilia and Tuscany, significant parts of the South and Lazio, and a slice of Veneto . Orsini is involved in a battle of stamped papers with Federlegno, linked to the expenses when he was president, but a few days ago he also received the endorsement of an authoritative “external”, i.e. the CEO of Intesa Carlo Messina with whom he worked having the credit delegation in Confindustria. His first challenger is Garrone. A long experience within the association and a different profile: he is that entrepreneur at the helm of a large group in which many Northern industrialists saw the right name to relaunch Confindustria, after a series of presidencies of small entrepreneurs or managers. They support him Assolombarda, the largest territorial, Piedmont, a part of Veneto. But Gozzi’s candidacy is also stronger than expected, as he seemed to have difficulties a few weeks ago and instead collected signatures in Brescia, Bergamo and scattered across Veneto, Tuscany and Southern Italy.

On Wednesday, after validating the self-nominations, the three essays Mariella Enoc, Andrea Moltrasio and Ilaria Vescovi will begin the tour of the territories. Attempting to mend things: it will be difficult to arrive at a single name to submit to the council, as some hoped, but the objective to contain fragmentation is to get down to at least two. In the meantime, the candidates will also move to transform signatures that are now written in the sand into consensus, given that they are not binding compared to the secret vote of April 4th. They will talk about programs, but above all about alliances, putting the vice-presidencies and other positions in the Confindustria galaxy on the table. Marenghi, supported by the outgoing president Bonomi, approaches the sprint as fourth: he is likely open to an agreement with one of the other candidates. But the real tipping point could be Gozzi, if he decides to continue or agrees to form a relationship. His candidacy, in terms of profile, overlaps with that of the other Ligurian big name Garrone, with whom relations are damaged. All the more reason to consider Orsini ahead, even if in five weeks he can change everything.
