Fuel prices hit municipalities, İETT General Manager İrfan Demet rebelled: ‘500 buses could have been purchased’

At the meeting, IETT’s 2024 budget and performance program and the 2024 financial budgets of eight district municipalities were discussed.
‘SUBSCRIPTION 16.8 BILLION’
After the budget discussions of the district municipalities, İETT General Manager İrfan Demet made the presentation of İETT’s “2024 Budget and Performance Program”. Stating that IETT’s passenger subsidy rate increases every year, Demet shared the following information: “The subsidy rate, which was 1.7 billion TL in 2018, increased to 16.8 billion TL in 2023. While the price of 1 liter of diesel was 5.50 TL in 2018, this rate increased to 37.50 TL in 2023. 36 percent of IETT’s diesel expenses, 3.5 billion TL, are SCT and VAT. With the taxes paid on diesel, IETT could renew 500 units in one year and the entire fleet in 5 years.” Expressing that they determined the 2024 budget of IETT General Directorate as 29 billion 400 million TL, Demet announced that the expected revenue budget will be 20 billion 400 million TL due to fuel and other cost increases, and the financing deficit will reach 9 billion lira. After the presentation, the IETT budget of 29.4 Billion TL was accepted.
BUDGETS OF DISTRICTS
The 2024 financial budgets of the district municipalities accepted after the voting are as follows: “Bayrampaşa Municipality, 1 billion 800 million TL, Beşiktaş Municipality, 3 billion 991 million TL, Beykoz Municipality, 3 billion 980 million TL, Beylikdüzü Municipality, 3 billion 335 million TL.” , Beyoğlu Municipality, 2 billion 600 million TL, Büyükçekmece Municipality, 2 billion 910 million 192 thousand 320 TL, Çatalca Municipality, 1 billion 162 million 860 Thousand TL, Çekmeköy Municipality, 2 billion 850 million TL.”
