Fuels: the price of diesel down again

Week after week, gasoline prices have accustomed to yoyo effects. But this Monday, motorists can rejoice on the price side, failing to be able to fill their tank when shortages begin to appear as in the Marseille region. According to the latest government statement, the liter of SP 98 remains stable at 1.97 euros, while that of SP95-E10 is down very slightly, by 1 cent, at 1.88 euros.

A liter of diesel costs 1.82 euros, two cents less than the previous week (1.84 euros). It thus returns to its level of 15 days ago, confirming the trend of a long-term decline since its highest level on January 27, 2023, at 1.94 euros per liter.

For the past month, gasoline prices have generally been fairly stable or down slightly. Good news for the purchasing power of the French, even if the latter could face other difficulties in filling their tank. In recent weeks, the situation has indeed been tense in refineries, where strike movements are initiated against the government’s pension reform project.

If it is not topical to speak of a shortage on a national scale, thirteen departments are currently under tension with more than 10% of stations out of diesel. Nearly 4% of stations would be out of fuel according to the latest data available on March 18 on the site fuel-prices.gouv.fr.

The most modest households can still request the fuel check

As a reminder, if you have to fill up, initiatives have been launched to allow you to make the bill at the pump less painful. In TotalEnergies stations, tariffs are blocked at 1.99 euros since March 1. And if you use your vehicle to go to work, it is always possible to request the fuel check of 100 euros set up by the government at the start of the year.

To be entitled to it, a single person must have earned less than 1,314 euros net per month in 2021, i.e. the net monthly minimum wage for 35 hours and up to 5,255 euros net per month for a couple with three children. And each member of the couple who uses their car to get to their place of work can claim it. The deadline for this “boost” operation has been postponed to the end of March.
