Gas consumption: Energy industry calls on citizens to save gas

Despite full storage, gas could become scarce this winter, warns the industry association BDEW. The lower the consumption, the higher the energy security.

The Federal Association of the Energy and Water Industry (BDEW) has called on people in Germany to do so here too winter use gas sparingly. The storage facilities are full and there is no longer any need for laws like a year ago, said association boss Kerstin Andreae
New Osnabrücker Zeitung. “Nevertheless, we appeal to the population to use as little gas as possible,” she said. The lower the consumption, the lower the costs and the higher the energy security.
At the beginning of November, the association of storage operators announced that despite the gas storage being full, an emergency situation could not be ruled out in a very cold winter. If temperatures are extremely low, as in 2010, the German storage facilities could be empty at the end of January.
