Istanbul Ready-made Clothing and Fashion Fair (Istanbul Fashion Connection-IFCO), organized by the Istanbul Ready-made Clothing and Apparel Exporters Association (IHKİB), in cooperation with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and with the support of the Ministry of Commerce, started yesterday. Speaking at the opening of the event held in Istanbul Expo Center, which is the largest ready-made clothing fair in Europe, Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat said that IFCO has only completed its 2nd year, and that it is organizing its fifth fair as it turns 3.

Bolat pointed out that the fair will be held in 8 halls with 600 participants and a total of 30 thousand visitors from home and abroad; He stated that after Milan, Paris and London, Istanbul has now become a fashion centre. Bolat emphasized that Turkey has become a production, supply, logistics, trade, energy and fair center. Bolat stated that this picture is a clear indicator of how the Turkish economy has progressed and developed on strong foundations in the last 21 years.

Minister of Commerce Bolat stated that the textile and clothing sector constitutes an important area in exports and stated that the sector that first ignited the Turkish industry was textile and then ready-made clothing. Stating that Turkey has achieved significant gains in textiles in 100 years with the advantage of being a cotton producing country, Bolat said: The biggest contribution of the sector is to employment, added value and increase in tax revenues… Being a cotton producer, being close to target markets, being able to deliver goods in 2 days, providing a wide range of products. Our range and original designs played an important role in this success. From now on, the road map is clear; “more design, more branding, faster delivery,” he said.
