According to TASS news agency, Kremlin Spokesperson Peskov said, “Complex situations are inevitable for Turkey’s natural gas hub. We will follow up and continue to cooperate with Turkish partners,” he said.

After the Russia-Ukraine war, while European countries tried to sharply reduce the import of Russian natural gas within the scope of sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the idea of establishing a natural gas center in Turkey.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also announced that the two states would work on the issue. While Ankara welcomed this initiative, it stated that a significant part of the infrastructure for establishing a transit hub and natural gas trade center in Istanbul is ready.
