The maneuver by the autumn

The construction of the next economic maneuver (the first entirely of the Meloni government) has its deadline in the autumn. For the center-right and right-wing parties in government, it will be an opportunity to capitalize on the consensus in view of what will be the next important electoral appointment: the 2024 European elections (votes will take place from 6 to 9 June). Therefore, the race towards the maneuver will inevitably be studded with flag measures, to touch the sensitive chords of one’s electorate. Spanners in the works: the difficult balance of public finances to keep together with the budget law and what will emerge from the negotiations on the reform of the European stability pact. The government is betting everything on tax reform, among the main items of which stands out the Flat tax widely promised in the electoral campaign and which has already been rejected without ifs and buts by the Bank of Italy, which defined the scheme as “unrealistic”. The concern of Via Nazionale given by certain repercussions on the broad welfare system that characterizes Italy. Autumn is still many months away, but let’s try to understand how the majority parties are moving.
