Thursday 1^er June, the Feyzin refinery flare was put into action following a technical incident on an installation which required the stoppage of the steam cracking unit in the platform’s petrochemical sector. “Analyzes are underway before the impacted unit can restart,” Total explained to the Progress.

This Sunday, the company indicates in a press release that “the maintenance operations are now complete” and that the start-up maneuvers of the installation begin. However, “these start-up phases are sequential and progressive. They should last a few days and could generate occasional flaring episodes”

“Air quality is constantly monitored”

“During unit stoppage or restart maneuvers, the site’s torches may be stressed more than during normal operation,” indicates Total. Thus, it is possible that you will see flames coming out of the flare and smoke around the site for the next few days. The use of the flare actually makes it possible to “manage the excess gases” which cannot be stored or released in a gaseous state into the atmosphere. “The air quality around the site is constantly monitored by the air monitoring stations of ATMO Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes “says Total.
