New Year’s Eve: Germany imports significantly more fireworks than in 2022


Germany has imported almost four times as many fireworks this year as in the previous year. As the Federal Statistical Office announced, the number rose – compared to the first three quarters of 2022 – by 283 percent to 24,400 tons by the end of September.

However, the pre-Corona level from 2019 was not reached again. Imports from January to September 2019 were 29,800 tons, 18 percent above this year’s figure. Last year, only 6,400 tons were imported; before that, the number was even lower due to a sales ban.

In the current year, almost all of the fireworks introduced from January to September were used China. The statisticians from Wiesbaden measured a proportion of 95 percent – as in the past 20 years. Chinese imports consistently accounted for more than 90 percent of the pops imported during this period.

The export figures have also clearly increased – not only compared to the previous year, but also to 2019. By the end of September this year, German companies exported 4,900 tons of rockets and rockets firecrackers abroad; In the same period last year it was a good 2,700 tons, in 2019 almost 2,000 tons.

The most important buyers of fireworks from Germany are the Netherlands (73 percent), Italy (11 percent) and Belgium (8 percent).
