Retail: The last stores of the Real supermarket chain are scheduled to close in 2024

The Real supermarket chain is closing its stores. The company gives several branches to competitors. The last branches are scheduled to close by the end of March 2024.

According to the information, 14 stores are to be transferred to Rewe, three branches to Kaufland and one to Edeka. The Federal Cartel Office still has to approve some of the plans. The remaining 45 stores will be closed by March 31, 2024, as “despite intensive efforts, no buyer has yet been found” for these locations, it said.

Real had previously filed for self-administration insolvency proceedings in September. The company recently announced that the aim is to maintain business operations and at the same time hold negotiations with competitors about the possible takeover of locations. According to the information, more than 5,000 employees in 62 stores and the headquarters in Mönchengladbach are affected.
