Rio Grande do Sul entourage in NY seeks digital solutions focused on education and public services

The other agendas included a visit to Cornell Tech, the technological center of Cornell University. Entirely dedicated to technology courses, the institution is located on Roosevelt Island and was built in 2017 with funds from the city hall and the private sector. The group also visited the New Lab facilities, one of the main technology hubs in New York, located in Brooklyn.
“Our objective is to insert Rio Grande do Sul more and more in this theme of innovation and technology, which we have been doing since the South Summit and other actions, to make the State increasingly a reference in technology and innovation “, highlighted the governor on the way to the first agenda.
At Cornell Tech, the delegation was welcomed by the coordinators, who explained how the university works, which also has projects incubated in other European institutions, focused on artificial intelligence, acceleration of startups and other innovation actions. The governor spoke of the intention to establish partnerships with the university, thanked the institution for its willingness and explained that the State has been strengthening its innovation ecosystem.
Matthew Davis, one of the university’s representatives, said that there is willingness to collaborate and that research arms already have work aligned with academics from Brasília and São Paulo.
The last agenda was a visit to New Lab, a technology and innovation incubator founded in 2016, located in Brooklin, where the delegation learned about the activities carried out and narrowed the possibility of partnerships for actions to be developed within the scope of the government. Funded by the private sector, the New Lab focuses on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and virtual reality, and can offer the State a range of services and support.
“With Oracle we had a conversation similar to the one we had with Microsoft, getting to know their solutions for workforce training and service qualification. At Cornell Tech the possibility of understanding their model and opening initial conversations to develop agreements. At New Lab, we seek inspiration from them to develop similar actions in Rio Grande do Sul”, highlighted Eduardo Leite.
He also highlighted that one of the major objectives of the partnerships sought is to invest in education, training of agents and students, inserting more and more Gauchos in the digital environment. According to the governor, internet and computers already exist in the largest schools, which would be considered in this first moment, but there is a lack of knowledge of the platforms and services available to put this project into practice. Another form of partnership is through the use of software from this company to qualify state services.
“It is a three-axis agenda: partnership for training, products that can be used or developed to serve the interests of the public service and insights and inspiration on paths that we can develop in the public service and that were not on our radar”, concluded Leite.

“What I want to develop in the State is to transform our schools and set up technological training centers. And the big technology companies can help train tutors to help carry out this assisted training”.
