Salvini tries to wrest Musk from Meloni: “Starlink would be very useful for Italy”

ROME Matteo Salvini sides with Elon Musk. And although he says he doesn’t want to go into the merits of the Tim affair, in truth, does the exact opposite. The words he used in an interview with the newspaper Libero are very clear: “Musk is a fascinating person. Because he arrived before others, putting himself on the line and making it. I won’t go into the merits of the Tim case, but as Minister of Infrastructure I It would be very convenient to have Starlink in currently disconnected areas. Having someone like Musk investing in Italy is important. And for Italy it’s a great moment.”

The reference is to the clash between the Tesla founder’s company and the former Italian telecommunications monopolist. Starlink, which we remember is the satellite internet provider for SpaceX, accused Telecom of “hindering the development of broadband internet” in our country and beyond. He did so not with one of the usual “provocative” statements with which Musk has accustomed public opinion, but with a complaint filed with the Ministry of Industry and theAuthority for telecommunications.

In practice, Salvini’s exit thus has a double political value. On the one hand, siding with Starlink automatically puts oneself in opposition to the Minister of Enterprise Adolfo Urso (but also against the government) who made it known that he wanted to mediate between the duelists. And on the other tries to snatch Musk from Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni who a few months ago invited him on stage at his Atreju political initiative, the political demonstration held every year in Rome.
