Several “Pop Girl” children’s makeup kits recalled due to injury risk

Be careful if your children have used makeup palettes in recent months or years: several kits are recalled throughout France, due to the risk of injury. Alerts have been issued in recent days by the government website Rappel Conso, for items from the “Pop Girl” series of the “Markwins” brand, sold in different stores across the country. Three kits containing makeup and accessories are blamed for the risk of skin damage and corrosion, as well as eye damage.

A sheet published last week concerns a kit called “Color Tin”, sold in Carrefour, Intermarché centers, U and Netto stores. In question, “a mixture of methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone”, preservatives which are not authorized in leave-on cosmetic products. In recent years, the number of cases of allergies to methylisothiazolinone in particular has experienced an “alarming increase” in France and Europe, according to the National Health Security Agency food, environment and work (ANSES).

This makeup box contains several makeups and accessories. Its reference is GTIN 4038033390092 and its lot numbered 6200136. The kits were sold between February 5 and September 2, 2021.

Next come the “Color Train Case” makeup sets, marketed between February 5, 2021 and June 1, 2023 in the Carrefour, Intermarché, U, Casino, Auchan and Leclerc stores. These are the same substances that are involved, likely to cause injuries. Its GTIN is 4038033390214, its reference 1539021E and its lut numbered 6200140.

These two kits must no longer be handled, but returned to the point of sale for reimbursement. A number has been set up for consumers: 06 21 22 79 31. The recall procedure ends on April 30.

One last item is affected by the recall: the “Mini makeup case”, this time sold only in Monoprix stores across France. Its model is 1539011E, its GTIN 4038033390115, and all batches of the product are affected. Here too, you must no longer use the kit but return it to the point of sale and contact consumer service. A different number has been set up, 0 800 084 000. This callback procedure ends on June 26, 2024.

Several kits from the same brand had already been released last year at European level, because of the same mixture of preservatives. “Skin contact with products” containing methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone “may cause allergic contact dermatitis”, reported Safety Gatethe European alert system for recalls of non-food products.
