ROME – Smart working, back to pre-Covid rules. From today, a stop to the simplified procedures activated during the pandemic for “the fragile”, that is, workers suffering from oncological diseases or other serious pathologies, and parents of minors under 14.

In 2024 it is estimated there will be 3.65 million smart workers in Italyas noted by the Smart Working Observatory of the School of Management of the Polytechnic of Milan.

The Orlando reform

In the Public Administration, managers’ decisions are very different from office to office. In the private sector there is a prevailing backward movement: some companies opt for hybrid work, mostly in person but with a few days of smart working per month.

Specialized sectors

For young people and highly skilled workers, especially in hi-tech sectors, there is often the possibility of working independentlyremotely, is an essential condition for accepting or not a job.

Investigations on the subject in recent years have explored all the pros and cons. A study that Asus Business commissioned from the Astra Ricerche company, and which involved employees of companies from different sectors in Italy, for 47.8% of those interviewed, smart working generates isolation and has a negative impact on relationships with colleagues; 69.7% also associate it with a worsening of their working conditions.

Over 45 years old

Disadvantages particularly felt among workers over 45 years of age, especially in those who live alone and without children. Data that companies against smart working use to try to use it as little as possible.

While other investigations, such as that of Polimi, demonstrate that a worker is smart working for 2 days per week you save around 1,000 euros in transport costs over a year and that working remotely increases productivity. Remote working, by objectives, is in fact still to be built.
