Social Security allows early retirement from age 52 in these cases

Retire early, that is, before ordinary retirement age, is a very attractive option for many workers who want to retire professionally as soon as possible. In some cases these advances can be up to more than a decade.

Although the two main types of early retirement (voluntary and involuntary) contemplate advances of between two and four years with respect to the retirement age, Social Security allows certain workers to retire earlier.

It’s about the early retirement due to group or professional activitya modality that only occurs “in those groups or professional activities, whose jobs are of an exceptionally painful, dangerous, toxic or unhealthy nature and show high rates of morbidity or mortality,” explains Social Security. in his web page.

Workers who carry out any of these professions affected by these special early retirements may advance their retirement above the average (and through age-reducing coefficients) provided that they meet certain individualized contribution requirements for each of them and also comply , the 15 years required to access the pension and are in a situation of registration or assimilation to Social Security.

Of course, “the application of reducing coefficients cannot give rise to the interested party accessing a retirement pension under the age of 52“, warns Social Security.

The organization collects on its website all the specific regulations for each profession that has special early retirements. They are the following:

Mining Statute Workers

Royal Decree 2366/1984, of December 26 (can be consulted at this link) contemplates different reducing coefficients of between 0.05 and 0.5 applicable to the years actually worked. These coefficients depend on the worker’s profession, but they can never reduce their retirement age beyond 52 years.

An example to know how these coefficients work: a picador, who has a coefficient of 0.50, has worked for 20 years, so he will be able to reduce his retirement age by 10 years (half of 20, hence the 0, fifty).

Aerial Works Flight Personnel

These workers are regulated by Royal Decree 1559/1986, of June 28 (You can check it out at this link), which establishes reducing coefficients of 0.40 for pilots and second pilots and 0.30 for aircraft mechanics, navigators, aerial photography operators, technological media operators, aerial photographers and aerial camera operators.

Railway workers

In Royal Decree 2621/1986, of December 24 (can be consulted at this link) coefficients of 0.15 or 0.10 appear contemplated for a long list of professions.

Artists

They are another of the sectors regulated in Royal Decree 2621/1986. The legal text allows singers, dancers and trapeze artists to retire early from the age of 60 without reductions in their retirement pension as long as they have eight years of service within the previous 21. The rest of the workers are allowed this retirement at 60 years old but with reductions of 8% in the pension for each year of advancement.

Bullfighting professionals

Royal Decree 2621/1986 also applies to them, which calls on workers to certify a specific number of celebrations to access early retirement: matadors, bullfighters and steers can retire at age 55 if they certify 150 festivities and the banderilleros, the picadors and the comic bullfighters will be able to do so after 200 festivities.

In parallel, the puntilleros must accredit 250 celebrations to advance their retirement to the age of 60 and the rapier boys, rejones and assistants will have to suffer an 8% reduction in their pension per year of advance.

Firefighters at the service of public administrations

Royal Decree 383/2008, of March 14 (can be consulted at this link) establishes a reducing coefficient of 0.20 that can lower your retirement age to a maximum of 60 years (59 years for people with 35 years of contributions).

Members of the Ertzaintza

The same applies to regional police officers as to firefighters: reducing coefficients of 0.20 that allow the retirement age to be reduced to 60 years (or to 59 with 35 years of contributions).

local police

Royal Decree 1449/2018 applies to these workers (You can check it out at this link), which contemplates reductions of a maximum of five years with respect to the ordinary retirement age and of six years in cases where 36 and a half years of contributions are proven.

Sea Workers

Royal Decree 1311/2007 applies to these workers (You can check it out at this link) contemplates reducing coefficients of between 0.10 and 0.40 depending on the profession, although with a limit of 10 years in advance with respect to the ordinary retirement age.
