The fashion icons of the 90s on display in Milan

The era of the greats fashion icons comes back to life through the lens of Thierry Le Gouès in the ’90’s’ exhibition scheduled at Rubin Gallery in Milan from the 16 to 25 February. Kate Moss, Carla Bruni, Karen Mulder, Tatjana Patitz, Naomi Campbell etc. are the protagonists of an initiative that collects the most beautiful images of the French photographer taken during the most innovative decade forfashion industry. Intense black and white photos portray faces, expressions, gestures and sculptural bodies of rebellious women, driven by the desire to always stand out to clearly affirm their identity.

Born in Brest, France, in 1969, Thierry Le Gouès began his career as a fashion photographer in 1990 working for the Condé Nast group. From that moment on he has collaborated with the most important international publications in the sector: Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone. During his career he has managed the advertising campaigns of numerous brands of the ‘fashion system’ such as Armani, Cartier, Alexander McQueen, Levi’s, Louis Vuitton, Pierre Cardin, Fendi, Gucci, Hermés, Ralph Lauren, Bottega Veneta, Nike, Paco Rabanne . There are also numerous personalities from the world of entertainment masterfully portrayed by the artist: Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears, Harrison Ford, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Neymar and Sharon Stone.

Curated by Mks Milano Fashion Agency, the exhibition analyzes theevolution of the photographer’s style through his numerous collaborations with Condé Nast and the top models that have marked an entire generation. This is the case of Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Amber Valletta, Eva Herzigova, Kristen McMenamy, Yasmeen Ghauri and Helena Christensen, on whom Le Gouès was able to impose his taste. Classic compositions, plays of light, cinematographic staging and timeless portraits characterize his ‘way’ of photography.

Among the most famous representations on display we highlight one Kate Moss wrapped in gold, the perfect body of a black woman on the white cobblestones of Étretat in Normandy and a Karen Mulder in the role of a Hitchcockian heroine lost in Marseille. The initiative aims to be a tribute to the creators of ‘fashion system’ – from stylists to journalists to models – with whom the photographer worked, always capturing their personality through a bold vision. ’90’s’ is, finally, the title of the photographer’s fifth book from which the contents of the exhibition are taken. Published by PowerHouse Books, the volume is the symbol of the maximum expression of fashion photography in the last decade of the twentieth century.
