The Gramota.ru platform, which users used mainly as a reference for clarifying spelling and punctuation rules, was relaunched on November 22 with an updated design. The information databases accumulated by the portal over decades of work are now equipped with an end-to-end search system built using machine learning technologies. Now users have access to the Metadictionary, which combines materials from various reference books and dictionaries of the Russian language. The information in it is presented in the form of a word card, where, for the convenience of the user, all data about it is collected: spelling, stress, interpretation, examples of application. Each card is supplemented with grammar tables with word forms and audio voiced using the speech synthesis technology of the SaluteSpeech platform. The new section “Textbook” will be an assistant in learning the Russian language for teachers and students, the developers expect. The rules of the language are presented by difficulty level and equipped with interactive exercises for better mastery of the material. In addition, the “Literacy Journal” is available on the platform – publications about news of the Russian language and issues of its study.
“Gramota.ru is a resource that helps millions of users navigate the world of the Russian language,” said the head of the platform, member of the Presidential Council for the Russian Language, Konstantin Derevyanko. “The update will affect the increase in literacy of the inhabitants of our country and the support of the Russian language in the world. We will develop Gramota.ru as a full-fledged national digital platform of the Russian language, closely connected with the development of our country, its culture and economy.” “It was important for us to technically update the portal while maintaining a high level of professionalism and expertise,” says digital platform producer Leonid Aizikovich.
The Gramota.ru help service will still remain accessible, but finding answers from experts will become easier, the developers promise.
The Gramota.ru portal was created in 2000 with the support of the Russian Ministry of Press (currently the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications). The portal’s annual audience is 20 million people, the number of views is more than 7 million monthly. For 23 years, the Gramoty.ru help service has prepared about 300 thousand answers to user questions. The Gramota.ru dictionaries contain more than 5 million entries. The relaunch of the portal is timed to coincide with Dictionary Day, which is celebrated on November 22, the birthday of Vladimir Dahl.
