Respond to the gap between demand and supply of specialists of the ICT sector with a training course dedicated, in fact, to insertion into the company. Epicods launches it noting that in 2022 the delta between supply and demand for specialized figures, on the Italian labor market alone, can be quantified at approximately 175 thousand professionalswith the trend likely to grow given the difficulty of traditional education to keep up.

Ivan Ranza, CEO of Epicodeexplains that in addition to the Italian gap it must be considered that “Europe is experiencing higher demand than the United States for ICT professions: over 800 thousand profiles in June alone, the latest data, compared to 350 thousand people in the USA. At this moment the demand for ICT skills has literally exploded in the Old Continent.

On the basis of this consideration, the company specializing in “ed-tech” training for students and companies makes the leap with the new Epicode Institute of Technology, a Higher Institute of Technological Education “which has the aim of rapidly evolving the university panorama using a teaching method recognized and validated in Europe, entirely oriented towards job placement”. European validation that derives from the recognition of the Institute in Malta, which has reached the last phase of accreditation after a process lasting over a year and a half.

“In our technological bootcamps – explains Ranza – we see many students trained by our universities but without technological skills. We defined our program with companies, verifying which profiles they need”.

Epicode, a couple of years ago, had raised a 10 million investment round led by Matteo de Brabant and also subscribed by Family Office and entrepreneurs such as Enrico Drago, Valerio Camerano (Algebris), Federico Leproux (Teamsystem), Niccolò Colussi and Matteo Lunelli (Altagamma, Ferrari) and others.

Now CEO Ranza sets himself “the objective of train a new generation of STEM graduates (i.e. in scientific and technical subjects, ed) with an international profile. The model that inspired us – she says – starts from the best global experiences in education, combined with the excellent results obtained by German Fachhochschule. The student and the company are at the center of the training path and the world of work predominates over the notions that too many young students suffer and which leads to dropout rates and graduate rates that are not adequate for Italy’s needs”.

The didactic and strategic leadership of the Institute will be entrusted to Roger Abravanel, which will be supported by an advisory board with representatives of the Italian company. The construction of the training system is based on study paths “built together with companies” and teaching entirely oriented “to entry into the world of work”. So much so that the registration fee will be refunded (3,900 euros per year, “when the costs at an international level are more than double”, says Ranza) for those who will not be placed within one year of graduation. There will also be a coach who follows the members in the training course.

What have we added to this approach?, asks Ranza: “Ability for abstraction, critical spirit, ability to work in a team are skills that are increasingly in demand and which are not trained at university. And they are fundamental to knowing how to remain on the market in the long term. Thanks to the experience that Epicode had already gained, these are skills that we are able to transfer to our students alongside technical skills”.

The first degree course will focus on computer engineering & artificial intelligence focusing on technologies, methodologies and certifications (including Cisco, Google, AWS) “which will make graduates highly employable in the sectors of web development, data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud computing and artificial intelligence”.

The training, in classes of a maximum of 50 students, will be entirely online with both recorded and live lessons (“50% are live hours”, specifies Ranza) alternating with practical projects with companies and live experiences such as events, access to co-working, community activities and trips abroad.

Objectives for the new Institute? “At most we will have 200 students for the first year – explains Ranza -. There will be an additional selection process step which will be based above all on the students’ motivations, as well as their own hard skills”. There are already requests from companies for other training courses on Epicode’s table: “We have received requests from very important companies, for example in the chemical engineering sector. Without a doubt we will have news in the future, always in the Stem-Ict field: the market will guide us”.
