Railway has plans to make 102 Vande Bharat trains in its production units. These trains are being manufactured at ICF, Rail Coach Factory and Modern Coach Factory. Apart from this, the railway has plans to make 400 sleeper Vande Bharat trains. Three different types of technology will be used in these. For this, a consortium of Indian and Russian companies got a contract worth Rs 40,000 crore. This includes government company Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Russian company TMH Group (TMH Group). But there has been a dispute between the two companies regarding the honorship. The Russian company says that RNVL is seeking a higher stake in the joint venture.
Railways had floated a tender to supply 120 to 200 sleeper Vande Bharat trains. It was won by TMH-RVNL. But the Railways is yet to sign a contract with the consortium for the supply. TMH Group’s India business head Sergei Medvedev said RVNL is now seeking 69 per cent stake. Experts say that talks have started between the two companies to resolve the dispute.
