Russian Ambassador to Norway Teimuraz Ramishvili said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the ban on the import of finished fish and seafood products from Norway will help Russian producers occupy vacated trade and production niches in the domestic market. According to him, a ban on the import of fishery products can also increase the export of fishery products to friendly countries.
Teimuraz Ramishvili noted that Russia and Norway continue to work in the field of fisheries, despite sanctions pressure. According to him, this is facilitated by coordinated measures to regulate marine resources in the northeast Atlantic on the part of coastal states.
However, he noted that since the beginning of 2023, bilateral trade has decreased by almost 80% due to a reduction in the supply of Russian products to Norway. Based on the results of the first six months, the basis of Russian exports to Norway were fish and seafood, vegetable fats and oils.
At the end of July 2023, the government introduced a ban on the import of fish products from unfriendly countries from August 1 until the end of the year. Norway is also among the unfriendly states, according to the government decree.
