By 2025, Aldi initially wants to completely dispense with goods from husbandry type 1. Animal rights activists speak of “torture breeding” with this form of husbandry.
Greenpeace announced that Aldi was taking a decisive step towards better meat in the range. Taking cheap meat off the shelves means less animal suffering, more protection for the climate and more planning security for farmers. The association Provieh welcomed the initiative and called on Lidl, Edeka and Rewe to follow suit. If other food retailers join in, that would be real momentum to raise animal welfare standards. Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd also appealed to the competition.
