Corona Vaccine: Low demand, no production, how will the vaccine be supplied – with no vaccine production due to low demand, states’ stocks run dry as covid infections climb again

Vaccine finished in hospitals
There is only one operational vaccination center in Chennai. Most private hospitals in Kolkata have either run out of vaccines or will be out of stock by the end of April. The shots are not available in government hospitals in Madhya Pradesh since February. The story is the same in the NCR cities of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon, and the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Out of stock because of this
One of the reasons for running out of stock is lack of demand. Corona cases were seen very less since July last year. At the same time, exemption was also given in such institutions where vaccination certificate was mandatory. At the same time, most of the hospitals were under pressure to clear the stock before the expiry date. In such a situation, he did not give any new order. Vaccine manufacturers Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech had to stop production of Covishield and Covaxin, respectively, due to the drop in demand.
The company suffered loss
According to a Bharat Biotech official, the company suffered huge losses as it had to destroy around 50 million doses of Covaxin earlier this year due to expired vials. ‘The production of Covaxin was started to be discontinued in early 2022 due to lack of demand for the product. According to Bihar Health Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, they have demanded the Center for fresh stock.
