Ex-president of LUKOIL Alekperov topped the Russian Forbes list for the first time


In the list of the richest people in the world of the American magazine Forbes 125 Russian billionaires were included – 15 people more than last year. To date, this is the largest number of Russians in the entire history of the ranking. The total wealth of Russian billionaires over the year increased to $576.8 billion, which is 14% more than last year’s figures. The Russian list was topped for the first time by the co-owner and ex-president of LUKOIL (MOEX: LKOH) Vagit Alekperov. His fortune increased from $20.5 billion to $28.6 billion over the year.

In second place on the Russian list is NOVATEK co-owner Leonid Mikhelson. The magazine estimates his fortune at $27.4 billion. Third place in the ranking was taken by NLMK beneficiary Vladimir Lisin with a fortune of $26.6 billion.

The top 10 also included:

  • 4. Alexey Mordashov ($25.5 billion);
  • 5. Vladimir Potanin ($23.7 billion);
  • 6. Gennady Timchenko ($23.4 billion);
  • 7. Andrey Melnichenko ($21.1 billion);
  • 8. Pavel Durov ($15.5 billion);
  • 9. Alisher Usmanov ($13.4 billion);
  • 10. Mikhail Fridman ($13.1 billion).

The wealth of 64 Russian billionaires increased over the year, while 24 decreased. 4 Russians returned to the list, and 19 had never been billionaires before.

In first place in the annual ranking of the richest people by Forbes turned out to be French businessman Bernard Arnault, who owns the brands Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Givenchy and others. Mr. Arnault’s fortune is estimated at $233 billion.

The day before, April 1st, Bloomberg Billionaires Index also published a ranking of Russian billionaires. According to him, the fortune of the co-founder of Eurochem and SUEK Andrey Melnichenko increased the most – by $5.29 billion, to $24.1 billion.
