Forteinvest announced force majeure on shipments from the Orsk Oil Refinery – Kommersant

The owner of Orsknefteorgsintez (Orsk oil refinery), the Forteinvest company, declared force majeure on the fulfillment of obligations at the auction of the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange. This was reported by Reuters and “InfoTEK” with reference to the company’s letter. On April 7, the Orsk Oil Refinery suspended operations due to flooding.
“As a result of the above-mentioned insurmountable circumstances, all shipments of petroleum products from Orsknefteorgsintez PJSC were stopped, and therefore Forteinvest lost the opportunity to fulfill contractual obligations under agreements concluded at the organized auctions of St. Petersburg International Trading Exchange for the shipment of petroleum products from Orsknefteorgsintez PJSC until the termination of the above-mentioned circumstances force majeure,” the letter says.
The Orsky Refinery is part of the structure of Forteinvest JSC in the industrial block of the Safmar group. The production capacity of the plant is 5 million 760 thousand tons per year.
The Orsk Refinery, as previously reported, continued shipments of automobile fuel, despite suspension plant work. The tank farm was said to have sufficient production.
Orenburg region, according to assessment regional authorities, faced the largest flood on record. A federal emergency has been introduced. Damage to infrastructure in advance is assessed at 21 billion rubles. In Orsk, water broke through a dam and flooded part of the city. In a number of settlements, including Orenburg and Orsk, partial evacuation has been announced.
