Modi government made a big announcement regarding UPI facility, will help in stopping corruption

Mumbai: The Government of India has set a target to equip all Panchayats with UPI facility by 15th August. Continuous work is being done by the government on the updation of all the panchayats. As per the ministry’s guidelines, panchayats will have to choose the appropriate service provider by July 15 and name the ‘vendor’ by July 30. Through a letter from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, it has been informed that all panchayats in the country will necessarily use digital payment service for development works and revenue collection from this Independence Day and will be declared as UPI users. .

Also, the panchayats have been asked to select a single ‘vendor’ that covers the entire area. In a letter written by the ministry to states and union territories, it said that panchayats using UPI should be “announced and inaugurated” in the presence of key dignitaries such as chief ministers, MPs and MLAs. In this regard, Sunil Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj said that about 98 percent panchayats have already started UPI based payment. Also, about Rs 1.5 lakh crore has been paid through UPI.

According to the information of government statistics, in January 2023 only, 806.3 crore transactions worth Rs 12.98 lakh crore have been done through ‘BHIM’. Out of this, about 50 percent transactions took place in rural and surrounding areas. Now the payment to panchayats will be done digitally. Payment by check and cash has almost stopped. Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil said that the introduction of digital transactions will help in curbing corruption and now most of the panchayats are doing digital transactions.
