Moldova completes audit of debt to Gazprom

Moldovan authorities conducted an audit of the debt accumulated to Gazprom, its results will be presented after a thorough analysis, Minister of Energy of the Republic Viktor Parlikov said in an interview with Ziarul de Gard.
The head of the Moldovan department called the results of the audit “interesting”.
“The results of the audit are already there, but they will be publicly presented when we carefully analyze them. It is about the structure of these debts. Based on the findings of this audit, we will decide how the situation with Gazprom will be resolved further, – said he (TASS quote).
Parlicov also said that during the audit, funds were identified that were unreasonably used by the Moldovagaz company.
At the end of August 2022, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, Andrei Spinu, following the results of negotiations with the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, announced that Moldova would not have time to audit its historical debt to Gazprom before October 1, 2022. Then he pointed out the need to extend the deadline until March 31, 2023
“Gazprom“and” Moldovagaz “since 2011 annually extended the agreement on gas supplies. On October 29, the contract was extended for five years. Russia agreed to the formula proposed by Moldova, subject to the timely payment of current payments and the repayment of historical debt. Last autumn, Gazprom reported that the debt of Moldovagaz for the supplied gas was $433 million, and taking into account the delay in payments – $709 million. The Moldovan government decided to conduct an independent audit to clarify this figure. It was reported that the audit will affect both the company’s subsidiaries and legal entities directly or indirectly related to the gas sector.
