Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) addressed the guests through a video message on the last day of the G20 meeting. He spoke about technology and employment opportunities for the youth in the present times. He said that there is immense employment potential for the youth in the ‘Gig and Platform’ economy. There is a need to make policies at the global level to capitalize on the potential of this economy. It is the need of the hour for the youth to become skilled. PM Modi said that in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the demand for technology-based employment will be highest. India has experience in creating technology based jobs. Skilled workforce in India (Skilled Work Force) has the highest ability to give.
Frontline workers did amazing work in Corona
Addressing the G20 meeting held in Indore, PM Modi said that the frontline workers in India did a wonderful job during Corona. This shows his passion. Also, it showcases our service culture. The gig and platform economy that has emerged as a resilience during the outbreak of Kovid-19 has great potential to create gainful employment, especially for the youth. This economy can empower women socially and economically. He said that 1.25 crore youth are getting training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. India has the experience of creating large scale jobs in technology during the changes over the years due to new technologies. India is preparing youth by making skids according to the needs of the industry.
28 crore registered on e-labor portal
PM Modi told that India’s e-labor portal (E-Shram Portal) targeted steps are being taken in the interest of these workers, on which about 28 crore workers have registered in just one year. Providing social security to people is a key aspect of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, but many benefits including health, food security, insurance and pensions are not reaching the beneficiaries due to some narrow paths of the framework being adopted by international organizations these days. He said that we should re-think about extending these benefits to the beneficiaries so that the correct picture of the social security scenario emerges. Taking a one-size-fits-all approach is not conducive to sustainable financing of social security and in this regard the unique economic capabilities, strengths and challenges of each country must be taken into account.
Need to skill the workforce: PM
The Prime Minister said that the need of the hour is to skill the workforce using advanced technology and processes. Narendra Modi said that in the current era of the fourth industrial revolution, technology has become the main factor of employment and will remain so in the future. With a constantly mobile work force going to be the reality of the future, the need of the hour is to truly share skills while globalizing the development. The G20 group should lead in this regard. He said that in the current era of labor migration and mobility, there is a need for new global models of cooperation and coordination as well as new partnerships.
‘Need to focus on AI and robotics’
Narendra Modi said that sharing of data and information related to employers and employees can be a good start to this alliance, which will strengthen the efforts of countries around the world in making evidence-based policies for better skill development, workforce planning and providing gainful employment. He said that the country has focused on the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things and drones. India has the potential to join the league of world’s largest countries providing skilled workforce.
