Peskov recalled Moldova’s debts to Gazprom – Kommersant

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on Moldova’s refusal to buy gas from Gazprom. According to him, the dialogue between Gazprom and the Moldovan side continues, including taking into account Chisinau’s debts to the company.

“If I understand correctly, contacts between Gazprom and Moldova continue, especially since the Moldovan side has debts. There are debts, and there is a dispute regarding the size of these debts. And this dialogue must continue,” said Dmitry Peskov, answering Kommersant FM’s question about how the Kremlin perceives Chisinau’s statement.

The question of how gas supply to Transnistria will be carried out if it comes to a complete severance of relations between Moldova and Gazprom, Dmitry Peskov redirected to the company. “You still need to address this question to the company. Because it is very important to continue these supplies and provide energy resources to this particular region. But for the nuances, I recommend contacting Gazprom itself,” said Mr. Peskov.

Today, October 2, Minister of Energy of Moldova Viktor Parlikov reportedthat the republic will no longer purchase gas from Gazprom. According to him, Moldova has begun to purchase energy resources on the European market.

As Kommersant learned in September, the Moldovan authorities proposed to Gazprom to enter into a settlement agreement, according to which the Russian company and its structures would write off the debts of Moldovagaz. It is expected that in return Chisinau will guarantee the absence of lawsuits in connection with a reduction in supplies by $160 million, and will also pay Gazprom $153.57 million in compensation.
