New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is not only helping in meeting the electricity shortage in Assam but is also providing many benefits to the people. Selen Kakoti, the first beneficiary of this scheme in the state, gave this statement on Tuesday. Selen Kakoti, a resident of Janakpur, Kahilipara in Guwahati, installed a 3-kilowatt solar-rooftop in his house under the ‘PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity’ scheme. Kakoti said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he will provide solar panel systems to 1 crore homes. I had applied under this. After this the solar panel system was installed and made operational.”

The central scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on February 29 with an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore, aims to provide free electricity to one crore households in the country. Families will be able to get 300 units of free electricity every month. Kakoti said that his bill has not arrived yet. Whatever electricity is produced in this system goes to the grid. Even in bad weather, 10 units of electricity is available. When the weather is fine, there are 16 or 17 units available.

Under the ambitious plan, every household with solar panels will be able to save electricity bills as well as earn additional income through the sale of remaining electricity to discoms. Kakoti said that in 30 days, 450 kilowatt electricity will be available at the rate of Rs 10 per unit. Accordingly, Rs 4,000-5,000 will be generated. My bill will be adjusted accordingly.

Further said that the important thing is that there is no sharing system in it. Only I will use it, the rest will go to the surplus grid and the government will give me some money. This is a very good plan. The cost of a 3 kW system will be around Rs 2 lakh. Kakoti said, “Out of this, Rs 70 thousand will be borne by the central government and the state government will also contribute. I want to thank PM Modi very much. Change can be brought in the country through this system. This will solve the power shortage in Assam and whoever applies for it will get many benefits.”
