Press release from the CoR – la Repubblica

As they wanted to demonstrate: Gedi and the MSC group have announced that they have reached an agreement for the sale of the newspaper Il Secolo XIX. The project of divestment of what was the most important Italian publishing group, in terms of number of readers and publications, continues.
The Cdr of La Repubblica – in expressing solidarity with his colleagues from Secolo XIX – cannot fail to recall how a year ago Gedi’s leaders were quick to deny further sales of newspapers.
The company now claims to have reached the end of a journey that has seen fellow travelers take other destinations, from the center of Pescara to the newspapers of the North East, to the Tyrrhenian Sea of Livorno. Our concerns now are about the future.
Because so far, in the face of the desire for cuts and reduction of the perimeter, we have not seen as much determination to build that multimedia group that is talked about so much but little is seen.
A large publishing group has effectively been dismantled, one piece at a time, and this drip of rumors, inferences and then sales is exhausting and does not allow anyone to focus on the future. We no longer have faith in the reassurances of this management and this company, which in fact continues the path of cuts and disengagement, not having our daily mission at heart, that is, journalism.
