Putin instructed to begin reconstruction of the Moscow Canal no later than 2025

The government should begin the reconstruction of the Moscow Canal no later than 2025. Such an order was given to the Cabinet of Ministers by Russian President Vladimir Putin, writes TASS.

“He [канал имени Москвы] provides navigation and water supply in Central Russia and is already in need of modernization. I ask the government, together with the regions concerned, to start implementing the program for the reconstruction of this canal no later than 2025,” the president said at a meeting on the development of river navigation.

The President also noted the importance of providing “conditions for the development of passenger transportation by water transport” and the need to form a route network for this.

June 20 Putin visited The Northern River Station in Moscow also took part in the launch ceremony of electric ships via videoconference. Electric ships will carry passengers along the Moscow River. Their carrying capacity is 15,000–16,000 people per day. The first route will connect the Kyiv railway station with the pier on Shelepikhinskaya embankment. Its length is more than 6.5 km.

The restoration of the Northern River Station, which is located on the banks of the Khimki Reservoir, has been carried out since 2018 and ended in September 2020. In April 2023, the reconstruction of the Southern River Station on the left bank of the Nagatinskaya floodplain was completed, which has been ongoing since 2021.
