Reuters reports good safety record of Prigozhin’s crashed jet

The Embraer Legacy 600 business jet that crashed on August 23 in the Tver region, the list of passengers of which included the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin, had good safety records, writes Reuters. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to which the agency refers, for more than 20 years of operation of the model of this aircraft, only one accident has been registered with its participation.

According to Flightradar24, the Legacy 600 that Yevgeny Prigozhin was on board on August 23 was released in 2007. The Brazilian company Embraer, according to Reuters, does not have information about the crash, as it has not serviced the aircraft since 2019 due to sanctions.

The first flight of the business jet model Legacy 600 was carried out in 2002, since that time almost 300 units of such aircraft have been produced. According to ICAO, production was stopped in 2020. The only accident involving the Legacy 600 was in 2006, when it crashed into a Gol Boeing 737-800 over the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. The crash killed all 154 people aboard the Boeing. At the same time, Embraer was able to land at the Cachimbo military airfield, five passengers and two pilots of the aircraft were not injured. According to Reuters, no technical malfunction of the business jet was recorded. Pilot or air traffic controller error was considered among the causes of the accident.

According to Rosaviatsia, on board the Legacy 600 that crashed on August 23 were 10 people, including seven passengers, including Yevgeny Prigozhin and Wagner PMC commander Dmitry Utkin, and three crew members. Ministry of Emergency Situations reportedthat all on board were killed. A criminal case is being investigated on the fact of the crash on violation of the rules for operating the aircraft (Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, the aircraft belonged to LLC MNT-Aero, which specializes in business transportation.
