Russia has resumed supplies of Sakhalin oil to one of the Asian countries – Kommersant

Russia has resumed oil supplies from projects in the Sakhalin region “to one of the Asian countries,” according to the Bank of Russia report “Regional Economy” (.pdf). The name of the country is not given in the regulator’s materials; it is only stated that supplies were resumed two months later.

In December 2023, Bloomberg reportedthat six tankers loaded with about 5 million barrels of Russian Sokol oil from the Sakhalin-1 project stopped on their way to India for unknown reasons. According to Reuters, in total Russia I could not sell 10 million barrels of oil to Sokol. The agency attributed supply difficulties to US sanctions. However, according to information According to Kommersant, this decision was most likely due to commercial disagreements over the price of oil and the currency of payment.

At the end of January 2024, Kommersant learned that some tankers with Sokol oil, which had been idle at sea, began moving towards the shores of India. However, due to supply problems, China began to receive oil from the Sakhalin-1 project. Since the beginning of 2024, at least five tanker shipments of Sokol oil have been delivered to the country. At the same time, more than a dozen tankers loaded with oil of this type are still idle.
