Russian Railways signed an agreement on the construction of trains for the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line

Russian Railways signed a contract for the production, certification and delivery of the first two electric trains for the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed line. The cost of the contract is 12 billion rubles. It stipulates that trains ready for operation will be delivered by the end of March 2028.

The executor of the contract, as reported press service of Russian Railways, the Ural Locomotives enterprise will perform. The design documentation necessary to create prototypes is developed by the Railway Transport Engineering Center.

“The preliminary design has now been completed and key decisions have been made on the structure and design of the train. It will have an eight-car layout with the ability to connect two trains; four classes of service are being developed,” says a message on the Russian Railways Telegram channel.

For the construction of high-speed rail, which started March 14, from the National Welfare Fund (NWF) in 2025 allocate at least 300 billion rubles. According to the Ministry of Transport, the financial model of the highway includes 580 billion rubles. from the National Welfare Fund, as well as Gazfond bonds worth 290 billion rubles. The length of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed rail route will be 679 km. There will be everything along the way provided 16 stops. The total travel time will be 2 hours 15 minutes.
