The seller of potato chips fought a long battle
On March 29, 2023, when the Supreme Court gave its decision to return the lost money of Sahara’s investors, a wave of happiness returned on the faces of millions of people. Those whose capital was trapped in Sahara’s chip fund scam for years, their face blossomed. This victory was the result of a long battle of the man who fought for Sahara’s investors for years without any limelight. Even his earnings were not much, but in spite of this he fought a long legal battle for Sahara’s investors.
Who is Pinak Pani Mohanty
Pinak Pani Mohanty of Cuttack, Odisha, who runs a potato chips business, tirelessly fought a legal battle for years to get back the investors of Sahara. Mohanty’s own income is only Rs 25,000 per month, but despite this he continued to bear the expenses of the case. Mohanty did what Sahara’s investors had given up on. It is the result of his continuous hard work that now out of 25 thousand crore rupees lying with SEBI, 5000 crore rupees will be returned to the investors of Sahara. He had filed a petition in the year 2012 to get back the money of Sahara’s investors.
Mohanty was saddened to see the plight of investors
Mohanty fought a long battle against Sahara. He spoke to The Economic Times about this struggle. Mohanty, who runs the business of supplying potato chips in Cuttack, believes in the Bhagavad Gita. He was looking at the plight of the investors who put money in Sahara’s chit fund. Very sad to see their condition. He decided to fight a legal battle to get the money back from the investors. Public interest litigation was filed in the court. Took the cost of this case for years. Mohanty says that he belongs to the Scheduled Caste and it was not easy for him to fight this battle. Till now, more than 4.80 lakh money has been spent on this petition. Friends also helped in this fight.
Demand for inquiry against Sahara
Mohanty said that I had requested the court to conduct a CBI inquiry into the four cooperative societies of Sahara. He said that I am very happy with the help of the government. Mohanty said that I did not expect that the government would intervene in this way and the investors of Sahara would get relief from the court. Now the court has ordered to return Rs 5000 crore to the investors of Sahara. 1.1 crore people will get its benefit. Not only Sahara but Mohanty and his friends have helped people in getting money from chit fund companies like Rose Valley, Sharda and Seashore.
