Slow tourism: Sardinia renews eight routes

Eight paths, 3,500 kilometres, 180 stages, eight pilgrimage destinations, 16 Franciscan places and 220 communities made up of small villages, towns and capital cities: the Sardinia invests in slow tourism with “We walk in Sardinia”.

An investment of three and a half million euros
Three and a half million eurosallocated by Single National Tourism Fund – Funt of the Ministry of Tourism: this is the investment that will improve the reception infrastructures of the network of paths already existing in Sardinia and registered in the regional register.
The goal is lead walkers to discover the beauties of the Sardinian territory at a slow paceamong wild nature, ancient nuraghe, mining paths, crystal clear seas and steep mountains.
The works of infrastructure they are already happening thanks to the indications of expert guides who have traveled all the paths, to understand the needs of each route. The improvements will concern the signage along the city and extra-urban routes, a digital mapping that can be downloaded on the website noicamminiamoinsardegna.it, directions to the water refueling stations, the safety of the routes, the removal of any obstacles, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance as well as the tracing of new sections of paths and roads.
Average spend per night
One of the most significant new elements is the active involvement of over 100 accommodation facilities to host walkers: B&Bs, hotels, guest houses, motels and spaces within convents thus become an integral part of the project. The structures are strategically positioned around the stages of the routes, so as to provide certainty of accommodation at competitive prices. Thanks to the agreements with the Sardinia regionthe average cost for one night is in fact around 40 euros.
Spiritual tourism to deseasonalize
An important space is reserved for spiritual tourism: there are in fact eight pilgrimage destinations and 16 Franciscan places crossed by these paths, places of faith such as monasteries, sanctuaries, churches, places where saints, blesseds and martyrs lived. All this also in view of Jubilee 2025which will bring around 30 million pilgrims from all over the world to Italy.
In this way, the Sardinia aims to deseasonalize tourism, traditionally linked to seaside tourism in the summer months. The inauguration of the eight renewed paths, in fact, is scheduled between 1 and 5 October 2024, coinciding with the third edition of “We walk in Sardinia”a week during which the guides themselves will lead the walkers through 15 itineraries.
The driver of food and wine
Will be involved local microeconomicstherefore also the catering and hospitality system, bars, restaurants and agritourisms, as well as the valorisation of Sardinian agri-food: from carasau bread to the malloreddusfrom the porceddu to the wine sector.
