The Central Bank is checking the company Kept (successor of the international KMPG), which acted as the auditor of Qiwi Bank, sources said “Vedomosti”. In February, the regulator revoked the bank’s license.

The audit is carried out by the Corporate Relations Department of the Bank of Russia. This division is responsible for the regulation, control and supervision of auditors who provide services to public interest organizations in the financial market. The Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and Kept did not comment on the information.

Based on the results of the analysis of documents, the Central Bank may issue an order to the auditor, which may contain a warning, a request for additional information, or a fine. A Vedomosti source reported that the most stringent measure is exclusion from the list of auditors who can provide services to socially significant organizations in the financial market. However, in his opinion, the regulator is unlikely to risk applying such a measure to the largest companies.

According to one of the newspaper’s interlocutors, Kept’s audit is the first serious case in which the company is assessed how the company took into account Qiwi Bank’s compliance with anti-money laundering laws. Until recently, all inspections concerned primarily the implementation of auditing rules, and only then additionally under 115-FZ.

The Bank of Russia revoked the license of Qiwi Bank on February 21. The reason was shadow operations and violation of the law. Qiwi Bank ranked 89th in Russia in terms of assets. The deposit insurance agency was appointed to the temporary administration of the bank.
