The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said on Thursday that the organization had rotated experts at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

“I am pleased to announce the successful completion of the long-awaited rotation of the assistance and support mission at the Zaporizhzhia NPP – already the sixth in a row. I thank our employees for their professionalism, courage and dedication, as well as the efforts of all participants. The mission is indispensable for reducing the risk of a nuclear accident,” he wrote Grossi on Twitter.

It should be noted that the rotation of experts was able to take place only on the fourth attempt. A few weeks ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine put the responsibility on Russia for blocking this process.

We will remind you that the situation at the ZNPP has been in the center of attention since the beginning of August, when the Russian military began shelling the plant. Russia has rejected calls to demilitarize the nuclear plant under the pretext of “protecting it” from provocations, and blames Ukraine for the shelling.

After a short mission at the ZNPP, IAEA experts presented a report in which confirmed, that Russia has stationed military personnel, vehicles and equipment at various locations on the station. Since then, the director general of the agency, Rafael Grossi, has been conducting negotiations with Kyiv and Moscow on the creation of a nuclear safety zone around the station.

Ukraine, as well as some EU countries, not for the first month call for the introduction of sanctions against Russia’s nuclear sector, in particular Rosatom, pointing to its involvement in the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
