The Federal Customs Service reported an increase in wine imports to Russia by 6%

From January to October 2023, supplies of foreign wine to Russia increased by 6% compared to the same period last year. The import volume amounted to 532,400 tons. Maxim Chmora, head of the Main Directorate of Federal Customs Revenue and Tariff Regulation of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, announced this at the Russian Wine Forum, reports TASS.
Last year, in January-October, the import volume amounted to 501,100 tons. Among the largest suppliers are Italy (30%), Georgia (17%), Spain (13%), France (8%) and Portugal (6%). The top 10 also included Abkhazia, Chile, Germany, South Africa and New Zealand.
“You see that the leading share [в импорте] occupies a pool of unfriendly countries. At the same time, those countries with which it works within the framework of Russian exports, Russian winegrowers, have a rather limited pool. We are mainly forced to work with those countries that maintain normal trade and economic ties with us,” Chmora explained (quoted from TASS).
Exports of Russian wines in January-October 2023 doubled compared to the same period last year – up to 2800 tons. The largest importers are China (41%) and Abkhazia (40%). The top 5 also includes Israel, Tajikistan and Türkiye.

On November 9, during the forum, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Marina Afonina spoke in favor of permission online wine trading.
“We fully support this initiative. We also worked with the Ministry of Finance for a long time on a bill that approved an experiment to conduct (alcohol sales) through Russian Post,” Afonina said.
