The Russian government has decided to extend the ban on the entry of trucks from the European Union, Great Britain, Norway and Ukraine for another six months, until December 30, media outlets at the secretariat of First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov reported.
“The decision to extend the ban until December 30 of this year has been made,” – leads RIA Novosti message.
According to the agency, a draft resolution on this has already been submitted to the Cabinet.
The ban on the entry of trucks from these countries was introduced in October last year and was extended last time until June 30th. The ban also applies to transit traffic. At the same time, the restrictions do not apply to postal items and humanitarian aid, as well as goods imported through a section of the state border of Russia and Belarus.
In addition, the ban does not apply to the list of goods, including live animals, meat and meat by-products, fish, dairy products, live trees, confectionery, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pharmaceutical products, etc.
The introduction of the ban was a response to the decision of the EU regarding the passage of trucks registered in Russia. EU countries stopped letting trucks with Russian and Belarusian license plates pass in mid-April, after the fifth round of sanctions was imposed on Russia.
Formerly Russian authorities suggested to ban Polish trucks from passing through the territory of Russia. On May 23, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin announced that the deputies unanimously voted for a ban on the passage of Polish trucks. Parliamentarians also want to ban carriers from Poland from refueling at Russian gas stations at local prices, setting the cost of fuel for them at the level of EU prices. According to Volodin, the Poles will lose about 8.5 billion euros of income received at the expense of Russia. May 26 in Poland made a draft resolution on a temporary ban on entry into the country of heavy trucks registered in Russia and Belarus.
